Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 835 chipset with Quick Charge 4.0 for next-gen Android smartphones

Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 835 chipset with Quick Charge 4.0 for next-gen Android smartphones

CPU-maker collaborates with Samsung "to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance".

Qualcomm has taken the lid off its next top-tier Android smartphone processor by officially revealing the Snapdragon 835 – the company's successor to the Snapdragon 820 and 821. The next-generation Snapdragon chipset is, the company says, "in production now" and could be powering-up smartphones from Samsung, LG, HTC and more in the first half of 2017.
Qualcomm also announced it is partnering with Samsung to manufacture the 835 using the South Korean giant's 10-nanometre (nm) production process. In a press release, Qualcomm stated that Samsung's process would enable the Snapdragon 835 "to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance".
The two companies previously collaborated on the Snapdragon 820 and 821, utilising Samsung's 14nm FinFET manufacturing tech in an effort to create cheaper processors with reduced power-consumption levels.
Qualcomm noted that the 10nm process would give Android OEMs "more usable space inside upcoming products to support larger batteries or slimmer designs".
While little else has been revealed about the 835, Qualcomm did announce that the processor would support its Quick Charge 4.0 technology, which it promises would deliver faster charging by up to 20% and higher charge efficiency by up to 30% compared with Quick Charge 3.0.
Aside from providing "up to 50% battery charge in roughly 15 minutes", the improved charging tech also protects from battery overcharging, increased accuracy for temperature and voltage measurements, and support for a broader range of devices and cables thanks to USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery support that falls in line with specifications defined by Google engineers.
"As mobile devices become more capable and feature-rich, people tend to use them more. That's why consumer demand and awareness for fast-charging solutions is now at an all-time high," said Alex Katouzian, senior vice-president of product management at Qualcomm Technologies.
"Quick Charge 4 addresses that need by providing up to 50% battery charge in roughly 15 minutes or less, so you don't have to spend all day chained to your charging cable."

5 Advantages of Whats App Video Calling That You Probably Don’t Know

WhatsApp has finally rolled out support for the video calling feature to its app. How it stacks up against the Facebook's own Messenger app, Apple's FaceTime, Google's Duo, Skype or Viber is a discussion for another day. But given the huge user base it has managed to garner over years of time, it should pose a tough competition to the other video calling services.

Anyway, coming back to the point, there are a few advantages of using WhatsApp video calls, especially for emerging markets like India. However, it's more likely that most people are unaware of those benefits.

1)Video calls are end-to-end encrypted

Video calls are end-to-end encrypted Akin to the messages, video calls on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted. What this essentially means is that no one, except you and the person you intend to call can get access to it. Not even WhatsApp will have access.

2)No more annoyance

No more annoyance Since WhatsApp video calls can be placed only to the ones in your address book/contact list, it is more of a private affair unlike others, where anonymous people can annoy you by sending call requests.

3)Optimised for slower networks

Optimised for slower networks One of the biggest concerns in India is the low-bandwidth internet connectivity. To overcome this issue, WhatsApp has optimised the video calling for slower networks. Meaning you'll not have to worry about the slow internet speeds.

4)No need of other apps for video calls

There are already 160 million active users in India. Earlier, people used to share conversations with their friends on WhatsApp, now that you can place video calls within the app itself, there's no need of downloading other apps.

5)Works on both Android and iPhones seamlessly

Unlike FaceTime, WhatsApp video calling works seamlessly on Android and iOS smartphones regardless of what platform you are on

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Max: Battle of the big-screen phablets

Lenovo's new Phab 2 Plus comes with a dual-rear camera setup, and we compare it to the only phablet in the same price category

Lenovo recently launched its Lenovo Phab 2 Plus in India at Rs 14,999; a successor to the company’s original Phab Plus phone. Lenovo’s mid budget phone finds itself priced in one of the most competitive segments in the Indian smartphone market among other phones like – Moto G Plus (4th Gen), HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and Samsung Galaxy J7. Today however, we will be focussing on the Phab 2 Plus when pitched against a popular budget smartphone from Xiaomi – the Mi Max, a fellow phablet design.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi Max are priced exactly the same. Both devices also feature 6.4-inch displays, 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage; but this is where the similarity ends. Xiaomi Mi Max features a massive 4850 mAh battery compared to Phab 2 Plus’ 4050 mAh battery. Mi Max is also 15gms lighter than the Phab 2 Plus, at just 203gms.
Phab 2 Plus comes with a dual-rear camera setup that can let users take DSLR-style picture. The Mi Max on the other hand comes with a 16MP primary camera. The selfie shooter on the Phab 2 Plus is 8MP against the Mi Max’s 5MP camera.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080p resolution) along with a 2.5D curved front glass design. The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MTK8783 processor, along with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable to 128GB via microSD). Phab 2 Plus comes with a dual-SIM support and is 4G VoLTE capable. It is backed by a 4,050 mAh battery.
Lenovo’s highlight for the Phab 2 Plus is for certain the dual-rear camera setup on the device, which comes with two 13MP sensors. These sensors feature Fujitsu’s Milbeaut Image Signal Processor, which the company claims allows for DSLR-like effects and good low-light shots. The camera mode of the phone gives users a manual mode and the ability to change the focus. The front shooter on the phone is 8MP.

An AR mode in the Phab 2 Plus allows for users to superimpose effects on virtual backgrounds while taking pictures or making videos. The phone is also equipped with Dolby Audio Capture 5.1 surround sound, and comes with sensors like – G-sensor, proximity sensor, E-compass and L-sensor.
Xiaomi Mi Max
Xiaomi Mi Max was launched in June 2016, and features a 6.44-inch IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080 pixels resolution). The phone is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor, coupled with an Adreno 510 GPU. It features 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (expandable to 256GB via microSD).

The phone is backed by a 4,850 mAh non-removable battery. Sensor package on the phone includes – accelerometer, proximity, compass and finger print sensor.
Think twice before buying a LeEco phone :

LeEco recently made a big splash in the US. It started by selling high-end smartphones and TVs at affordable prices that are offset by its suite of services. It promised to launch an electric bike and, soon, maybe even a new car. But now the company says it’s running out of cash. Maybe you should think twice about buying a LeEco smartphone.
Look, at $299 with the discount, the LeEco Le Pro3 seems like a good deal. It sports a Snapdragon 821 processor, plenty of storage, a nice metal design and more. The appeal of the smartphone is supposed to be LeEco’s streaming services paired with the low-cut price. In the time I’ve spent with the phone, I haven’t found anything I actually wanted to watch. I had hopes that maybe that would change, but now I’m not so sure.
In a recent letter to employees, LeEco’s co-founder said the company is running out of money. It expanded too quickly, perhaps even into the US, and is struggling. “We blindly sped ahead, and our cash demand ballooned,” co-founder Jia Yueting said in an apology letter announcing he will permanently cut its salary to just $0.15 (1 yuan.) “We got over-extended in our global strategy. At the same time, our capital and resources were in fact limited.”
This isn’t to say LeEco is going to vanish anytime soon. The company still has a huge presence in China. I just wouldn’t be surprised to see it pull back its spending in the US, perhaps eventually cutting some of the program it initially announced. Can it continue to support and expand its US services? I’m doubtful if it’s running low on cash.
Hold on the LeEco LePro3 for now

I typically like to buy smartphones from established brands, though. I want to know there’s going to be support in case I damage the screen and need a replacement. I want future Android updates, software tweaks, new features. LeEco has promised much of this, but I worry that it won’t be able to deliver if its homebase decides to pull back on the quick expansion into new markets, like the US.
If you’re looking for a budget phone with high-end hardware and don’t expect much from the manufacturer in the future, you can save money with a phone like the LeEco LePro3. I suggest sitting back and waiting for a bit, though, to see what LeEco’s long-term US plans are.
